Business leadership tips | The total impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on businesses and their respective markets is still unknown. This is a scary thought for all who run such entities. The same can be said for the level of uncertainty amongst those who work for companies at a time like this. Unfortunately, we’ll only know the full extent post-pandemic once things start to play out.
Although there is a lot to be unsure of, what we do know is that effective business leadership is a sure way to help keep organisations and their people going strong. When things are changing, the way management reacts should change too. As a result, there’s no better time than a pandemic to prove that you’re able (and willing to adapt).
Whilst there certainly are no rules for how those in positions of power should be leading their entities at a time like this, there are certainly a few pointers worth noting. As the trusted centre for excellence, Centrevo believes that times of crisis don’t build character, they simply reveal it. Here are a few ways to make sure that reflection is a favourable one that positively impacts your business.

Business leadership tips 1: Lead by example
There’s little use in telling employees to be agile and productive if you yourself cannot do the same. Studies show that those who lack the ability to “walk the talk” are never fully trusted or followed by their subordinates. Better yet, an inability to practise what you preach has got to be one of the most disappointing traits in any leader. Don’t let that be you.
Business leadership tips 2: Educate yourself, daily
We’re all watching the news but there’s a difference between that and being informed. Get your information from reputable sources, question what you’re hearing and encourage your team to do the same. Not everything we see in the media is the truth, which makes sharing things at whim rather dangerous for your credibility (and your business’ too).
Business leadership tips 3: Know that change is a given
In times like these, the only thing we can be sure of is change. What happens today will be very different from what might have unfolded a week ago. This means your approach to dealing with the “new normal” need to accommodate change too. It might be a newfound sense of adaptability, more flexible processes or even a new service provider who can help you navigate this change. Either way, how you deal with changes will set the tone for the way in which your staff treat it as well.
Business leadership tips 4: Use what you have and use it well
Leveraging off of your resources is the key to bringing your business through this gauntlet. From the talent of staff to service providers and even technology at your disposal, now is not the time to get complacent. Your people and processes will be your greatest asset both now and going forward. Don’t forget that you have your own traits and strengths to use as well. Be calm, authentic, honest and real with your employees. They’ll certainly respect you more for it.
No one knows what the future holds but should you need anything at all, please know that we’re always here for you and your business.
